Bac Giang town is a second class city, the town is capital of Bac Giang province, about 50km northeast of Hanoi.
Bac Giang town is a historical site, initially it belonged to Tran Kinh Bac. Under French time, July 11, 1888 administrative unit "Phu Lang Thuong" was born and Bac Giang province was established, Phu Lang Thuong became the provincial capital. From a military base, Phu Lang Thuong became a municipality with many big streets, railway stations, ports, hotels, post offices, clubs, schools, parks, stadiums...From 1959 Phu Lang Thuong was called Bac Giang township and in 2005 was upgraded to Bac Giang city.
