Bac Me prison camp
Bac Me prison camp (or Cang Bac Me) was built in 1938 by French colonial rulers, with it's back agains the mountain and facing Gam river. At the beginning Bac Me camp was used as a small garrison for French troops, due to its remote position and difficult access the French turned the garrison into a prison for Vietnamese communists. The camp was built with a system of watch towers, stations and information chambers, surrounded by a wall 40cm thick and 190 meters long, 2 meters high with loop-holes...
Over time the site has been seriously damaged with the houses destroyed, leaving only the foundations and a few old bricks. However it would be a pity if you visit Bac Me and Ha Giang without paying a visit to Bac Me camp.
