Con Son pagoda
Con Son pagoda is located in Chi Linh district, Hai Duong province, about 80km east of Hanoi. Con Son pagoda is associated with the lives of many Vietnamese heroes, notably Nguyen Trai, it is also one of the centre of Buddhism in Vietnam.
Con Son pagoda is also called Thien Phuc Tu, it means "blessed by God". The pagoda was started in 13th century under Tran dynasty at the foot of Ky Lan (Unicorn) mountain.
Con Son Pagoda has a huge sculptural heritage that honors the four sacred animals: the dragon, unicorn, tortoise and phoenix, and the four sacred plants: pine, chrysanthemum, bamboo and apricot. There are also daily animal species: crab, fish, deer ... But all these animals bend before the Buddha to whom they pay tribute.
Con Son pagoda is also home to many precious relics. These include a set of four stone steles dating from the 13th centuries, including the famous Grotte Thanh Hu, a gift from King Tran Due Tong in mandarin Tran Nguyen Dan.
Each year, tens of thousands of pilgrims and tourists flock to this religious center Hai Duong. Con Son Pagoda celebrates its festivals twice a year. The Spring Festival takes place between 16th and 23rd day of the New Year, coinciding with the anniversary of the death of the monk Huyen Quang. The fall festival, held between 16th to 20th day of the 8th lunar month, honors Nguyen Trai, "A world culture man".
