Hoan Kiem lake
Hoan Kiem lake or Sword lake is a natural lake located in the centre of Hanoi city. Hoan Kiem lake has an area of 12 hectares. Previously the lake is called Luc Thuy lake for it's green water. The name Sword lake appeared in early 15th centure with the legend of King Le Thai To returned his sword to a holy turtle. This is the only lake in Hoan Kiem district.
Around the lake are historic sites and famous temples such as Turtle tower, the symbol of Hanoi, Ngoc Son temple, But tower, The Huc bridge, King Le temple...
The most precious thing about Hoan Kiem lake is the living legend of Cu Rua, known to be the only turtle in the lake. The turtle is attached to the historical and cultural values for thousands of year.
