Muong Lay town
Muong Lay is one of the smallest towns in Vietnam. A lot of travelers on their loop around northwest stop overnight in Muong Lay before continue to Dien Bien or Sapa. Muong Lay town used to be capital of Lai Chau province, the town was so small that it was seen as a button of a shirt however this little town has undergone many years of natural disasters, war and struggling in livelihood. The town centre is located in a thin and long valley, the intersection of three rivers Da, Nam Nam and Nam Lay stream. Since the Son La hydropower project was completed, the reservoir water level rises about 213m with a total area of about 100ha and made Muong Lay an eco-tourism area with extremely attractive landscape, considered as a Halong bay in mountain.
