Ky Cung river
Ky Cung river is the major river in Lang Son province. Derived from mountain highland 1.166m above the sea level of Dinh Lap district, Ky Cung river flows in the southeast - northwest direction through the town of Lang Son, at 22km from town the river makes a sudden turn flowing almost in the north direction of north - south to the town of Van Lang before turning to the east near the town of That Khe. From That Khe, Ky Cung river flows almost around the arc until it crosses the border into China and then confluence with the Bang Giang river in the Guangxi. Ky Cung River flows on land about 243 km on Vietnam territory. This is the only river in North Vietnam that flows backwards.
Originated in Dinh Lap, Ky Cung river started as a small stream, after the confluence with Ba Thin river near Loc Binh town, at some places it extends it's width to nearly 100 meters. Ky Cung River runs around the town of Loc Binh, just behind the old town. It takes only about 20 foot steps from central market and so the river behind the street is also an integral part of the market place, it is also one of the points of trade routes from the Chi Ma border gate to Lang Son town.
