The region of Bac Ha, in the extreme North of Vietnam is situated among lofty plateaus 700m in altitude, right on the border of China. The region has a year round temperate climate.
Various ethnic minorities populate Bac Ha, most of them Flower Hmong, Phu La, Tay and Dao. In Vietnam, Bac Ha is one of the main places for tourism, visit thanks to its original villages, which adorn the hillsides and its wealth of rolling, luscious paddy fields, not to mention its vibrant daily markets, alive with colour and excitement.
Bac Ha is accessible from Hanoi either by road or by train. The most comfortable option is to take the night train (starting in Hanoi at night, arriving in Bac Ha the following morning). The discovery of Bac Ha can take one or two days: visit the village markets, hike in mountains, spend several days trekking in the hills between the villages.
