Co Le pagoda
Co Le pagoda is in Co Le townlet, Truc Ninh district, it is a famous historial and religious site of the Red river delta. Co Le pagoda was built in 12th century under Ly dynasty, the pagoda was built on a square ground, with small rivers and lakes around. Co Le Pagoda is dedicated Buddha, it also worships monk Nguyen Minh Khong, who cured King Ly Than Tong from a terrible disease.
The old pagoda was built by wood however it was ruined, in 1902 Co Le pagoda was rebuilt in Gothic style like Christian cathedrals, after several renovations Co Le pagoda preserves it's architecture as it is today. The Cuu Pham Lien Hoa tower in front of the pagoda was built in 1926 with 8 sides, 12 storeys and 32m high, the tower was placed on the back of a big turtle heading to the pagoda.
In the middle of the courtyard is a large bronze bell placed on a square mound. The bell is 4.2 m high, 2.2 m in diameter, 8cm thick, weighs 9 tons. This bell has not been hit yet, but according to people once it rings the sound can be heard in the whole province.
Co Le pagoda also has a bronze drum, a bell cast in 1799 and boats used for swimming competitions. Co Le Pagoda is the quintessential combination between traditional Vietnam architecture with elements of Western architectural style, for that reason that the temple became a well-known spots in the Red River delta.
