Pu Mat national park
Pu Mat national park is located on the eastern slope of Truong Son Range and stretching over three districts of Con Cuong, Anh Son and Tuong Duong in Nghe An Province, Pu Mat National Park was established in 2002 with a natural area of 194,000 ha, of which the conservation area is 94,000 ha and the buffer zone is 100,000 ha.
In Thai ethnic languague, Pu means mountain peak, Pu Mat is the tallest mountain in the area (1,841 m) and is decided as the name of the park.
Pu Mat National Park boasts numerous trees and plants, from ancient trees with thousands of years to grasses, mosses, lichens and vines. Because of its diverse and complex terrain, Pu Mat National Park has many beautiful landscapes, which are home to many rare animals and trees.
Pu Mat National Park is also home to the Thai community. They live in most villages, in wooden stilt houses with wet rice cultivation, food crops, raising livestock and poultry, make bamboo and rattan products, weaving traditional brocade fabric with colorful and durable color. Kinh people accounts for a small group, mainly living in Con Cuong townlet and the Dan Lai, concentrated in 3 villages Co Phat, Ban Con, and Ban Buan in Mon Son commune, east of the park. Legend has it, Dan Lai is the only people who sit and sleep in Vietnam, the Dan Lai people burn a fire and put up the sticks in the shape of X letter, leaning on the chin to sleep, but still keep the sitting position to keep the wild animals at bay.
