Vinh city lies on the bank of the Lam river, border in the north with Nghi Loc district, in the south and southeast by Nghi Xuan district, in the west and southwest by Hung Nguyen district. Vinh city is 295 km north of Ha Noi, 1.424 km from Ho Chi Minh City and 400 km west of Vientiane city of Laos.
