Ho dynasty citadel in Thanh Hoa
Ho dynasty citadel is a famous heritage site located in Vinh Loc district, Thanh Hoa province, 150 km south of Hanoi. The citadel was built by Ho Quy Ly in 1397 on an area of 5,234 hectares with many main architectural blocks. This 600-year-old stone courtyard has made every visitor come to the site amazed by its unique architecture and sustainability.
Each side of the wall, though 600 years old, remains intact with the four towering gates, surrounding area is the landscape of Vietnamese countryside with rice fields, ponds and lakes...making the scenery more poetic.
The beauty of the Ho Dynasty has impressed many international newspapers such as CNN. "The citadel was built in three months, putting stones together without using mortar is an impressive achievement of 15th century technology." Ho Dynasty citadel was also recognized by UNESCO as the World Cultural Heritage in 2011.
This is also considered a very weird construction in 2 points. The first point, the Ho dynasty only existed for seven years (1400-1407) in the long history of Vietnam. Secondly, the Ho Dynasty was completely empty, containing only four walls surrounding a plot of land. In addition, there is no castle, temple, shrine...inside.
